Her Journey

Dawn Spinella has found success both in front of and behind the camera, as well as on the page, winning multiple awards in all three areas.

Dawn’s first biographical screenplay, Mary & The Moon, won the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Science Screenwriting Award, leading to writer-for-hire projects and igniting her passion for transformative storytelling. Her pilot When Men were Gods scored a student Humanitas award nod. Her short Smashed won Women in Media’s Camaraderie Initiative and her pilot GI Jane was a Blacklist/Women in Film finalist.

Dawn has shared her passion at University of the Pacific and UCLA, guiding students through shorts, features, and TV workshops. Under her mentorship, students thrive, win awards, and showcase films globally.

With an MFA in Screenwriting, an MA in Creative Writing, and her unique experience as a Broadcast Journalist for the US Army, Dawn brings unmatched expertise to her students.
